Colt vs Bushmaster assult rifles

I'm in the market to buy an assult rifle, but undecided between a colt and bushmaster. I am definently going with a pre-ban but there are so many choices. If I choose either one should I go with a 7.62x39 or .223? Please help.[?]

  This topic comes up all the time. If you are looking for investment then go with the Colt. If you ar looking for a shooter then go with Bushmaster. Bushmaster is Mil Spec. Colt is not, then again colt has a n investment name. Just my 2 cents. [8D]

  Good advice from gap. I have a preban Colt and a postban Bush. Why are you so set on a preban? Aside from the collapsable stock feature (which I really like), is the other stuff really that important to you? There is a huge difference in price no matter what brand you choose. If you want something to just enjoy shooting why spent the extra for a preban? Think what you could buy with an extra $500. or more. That aside, as an investment, you might be better off with the preban. As a shooter, I think it's tough to beat a $700. NIB postban Bush.

  Or you can find a bargain in a Colt Pre- ban like I did for $800
  Heavy barrel Match. Unfired. Nuff said.

  I would actually go for a pre-ban bushmaster. They are both unblocked and have the raised fence. With colt, if you find a pre-ban unblocked, there will not be a raised fence and vise versa. I belive bushmaster is better made and i definately think you should go preban. Not only can you have the telescoping stock, you get a bayonet lug, the ability to register the sear block and convert it to select fire, and buy a silencer for it from www.advanced-armament.com/. Pre ban is the way to go if you want to demonstrate all of you gun rights. Just beware that to convert to select fire and to put a silencer on you must pay a $200 tax stamp and each of the parts you need and would have to go through a class 3 dealer. Enjoy!

  The suppressor part is correct, but the select fire part is so very wrong it is absurd. You must have a registered drop-in autosear to convert a semi-auto rifle to select fire, not a registered sear block. BTW, this all can be done on a post ban rifle at much less of a cost. Tell me, what is the big deal about a bayo lug?
  
  Oh yeah, what the heck is an "assult rifle"? Unless you are going to buy a select-fire weapon, you are not going to get an assault weapon. Preban rifles are considered semiautomatic assault weapons (SAWs). Postban rifles are considered semiautomatic rifles.

  I have a Bushmaster unit. The barrel has been changed to a fluted SS bull barrel,new three and one half pound trigger job,56mm Springfield scope, Harris bipod, three pound lead weight in the stock. It shoots like a dream. I have put around 5000 rounds through it with not jams or problems. Dont have any experience with the Colt. Of course it is good quality, but a bit expensive if you go with the pre-ban. You pay lot for the Colt and PRE.

  Go with the .223 to start, 7.62x39 ar15 mags are getting hard to find & are very pricey. There are millions of .223 mags out there.

  I have a Bush 20th anniversary AR dated 1998 so that must mean the company started in '78. What I don't know is what products that had back then.
