I'm not sure if Ruger makes a factory semi .17 HMR, but i beleive Volquartsen makes them on the Ruger 10/22 action. Id give them a shot, i think they might have a website. Good luck

    Jager22, brought up a good question,thanks.
Will a Volquartsen .17hmr barrel work with the 10/22 or .22mag action, as a drop in?
    Any mods required?

I am not being critical, but why would you want or need with a 17HRM semi-auto? This cartrige has limited and specific uses and if you can't hit what you are aiming with the first shot why do you need follow up shots? What you are suggesting is hunting lion with a .243 Win. You know you are "undergunned" and want to compensate for the fact with multiple shots! Remember,it only takes one well placed shot for a humane kill! Look at the old time Buffalo hunters. All they had were black powder single shot rifles and yet they managed to decimate a herd numbering in the 100s of thousands.WITH ONE SHOT!!!!!If you have the resources to "burn up" ammunition, buy a Ruger or Marlin 22WMR and go ahead and shoot to your hearts delight. The 17 HRM is a ONE shot deal on the species it was designed for.NO MORE-NO LESS...

The Remington 597 is a semi-auto with 10 rnd clip.
as far as "one shot" goes or "undergunned" is not so in my case.
I use it for crows and can knock 3-4 crows off before they knew what hit them.

Rembrandt beat me to the punch. Volquartsen guns are very nice. I think Volquartsen is making the Cheetah semi-auto pistol in .17 as well. I saw one at a gun show in Missouri this past summer.

How ironic that Lil Scout uses the example "...you are suggesting is hunting lion with a .243 Win. You know you are "undergunned"..." to attack a legitimate question, while ArmaLite makes an AR10 in .243, and the ArmaLite logo is a dancing lion with crosshair. Give me an AR10 in 243 and I'll hunt Lion with it! If IAMACLONE_2 wants a simi-auto .17 than it's his right to pursue, and BTW no one species was specified in his question. Lil Scout, if you want to shoot only single shot rifles, handguns, and shotguns, thats your choice. But don't step on someone else wanting something different! "...not being critical..." my ass![:(!]

I agree with raskil on this one. I too wanted a .17 semi-auto, Ruger or otherwise. Why? I just wanted something different. Gasp. We can't have people going around wanting something different, can we? I'm with you Clone, let's storm Ruger's HQ and demand our 10/17's!!

Remington has a 597 in .17HRM that just came out. The dealer wholesale is $300.00 so this is not a cheap gun. Also the 597's have a terrible reputation for misfeeds , jams etc. I would stay away from this one anyway.

What's the point in burning up that expensive ammo in a semi automatic. I have to agree with lil scout on this one. It's kind of limited use cartridge that will be dead in a few years like the 5mm Remington.
