just a note... got a mosquito & after some fiddling got it to work rather well....then friend wanted it real bad so it went...next was Issc m22 glock clone...worst piece of crap ever bought, still haven't got it to run right...then gsg 1911 clone...GREAT right out of box shooter like the CZ Kadet factory, IZH 335, Beretta 89...

I was looking to buy a walther p22 5" barrel. I wanted to see if anyone out there has compared, actually shot, this pistol to other pistols in the $300-$400 price range. Interested in accuracy and reliability. I'm not looking for a serious competition target gun, just one for every day plinking and general range shooting. I'm also considering the browning buckmark and sig trailside. Any feedback on these pistols would be appreciated. 0 -
I might add the Ruger Mark II and S&W model 41. I think these are in or close to your price. I like the S&W over both the buckmark and ruger... I haven't shot the sig or walther you mentioned.

I own, shoot, & like my P22, bought with the extended 5" barrel. As soon as I could take delivery I took it home, took it apart, cleaned every component I could (inside & out), then carefully put it back together with what I considered to be proper lubrication (a light film of CLP) everywhere there was metal-to-metal contact. I've never had the problems I've seen here from other owners about jamming, misfires, or parts falling off.
It's fussy about HP ammo, seems to prefer solid bullets with high velocity loads; I can put 10 rounds into 1-1/2" at 25 yards at an indoor range. It's significantly smaller than a full-size weapon of larger caliber; I find I can only keep three fingers on the grip with my pinkie curled under the magazine.
I added the factory Walther 10mm Weaver scope mount adapter, a B-Square rail adapter, and a red dot sight I had laying around after finding the sight radius a bit short for a reasonably consistent sight picture.0 -
I think you'll find the 41 is worth a lot more than $200 to $300. Unless it's well used. They list at nearly a grand. The Browning and the Ruger won't be as expensive. Mind you, you get what you pay for. My 41 will always shoot circles around me. Finicky on ammo though. Doesn't like most brands of .22's. Fortunately, it does like Remington Target .22's. 0 -
look at the Browning buck mark 5.5 field or the Ruger 22/45 the S&W41 are $$$$$$

I bought my wife a P22 w/ the 3.5" bbl. She loves it. It's a great little gun, but as spclark said, it is picky on ammo. Try lots of different ones. My wife's likes Remington 'Golden Bullet' and most CCI stuff.
