1911 Book
I want to build my own 1911 starting with an Essex frame and slide. This will be my first attempt at something like this. Could someone recommend a 1911 book or manual?

Jerry Kuhnhausen's (2) books are the best I've run across.
There called " The Colt.45 Automatic - A Shop Manual" Volumes 1 & 2. Buy em you won't go wrong!0 -

I did a search at ABES and came up with 1988 as a publication date for vol. II 0 -
Was that for the .45 Auto.....There are two volumes for the Revolver, but all Jerry K's own list shows is one for the .45 auto.......!!!

I have a well thumbed copy of Kuhnhausen's .30 caliber service rifles book and it is excellent...but if you are not a technical nut it can be a pretty dull read! I show two volumes Paul, the first shows a photo of a cut-away Government Model- right side (I have no idea which one- you are the Colt man) while vol. 2 shows a line drawing- left side of a Government Model on its cover. I think volume 2 has been out for quite a while, although I don't own any of the books other than the service rifle edition.

Paul it is for the 1911 .45 you might also take a look at www.gunshowbooks.com (not quite as good a price as Marks above) or do a search on the Advanced Book Exchange, there is a good used copy for $15. 0 -

Totally unaware of the 2nd Volume of the .45......never seen it to my knowledge, but that's why I asked. Now, I'll get me one of those too! Thanks guys, for the info!

Also recommended is the book by Layne Simpson. Lots of really great information on the different aspects of what goes into the design of a good 1911. It's one thing to put a gun together correctly; quite another to make it worth your while. The first is your task, the second your goal. Best wishes for a successful project on both accounts.
