How can I cut the second lower hole for the magazine catch in a stick magazine so that it will fit a M1 model? Several of my stick magazines only have one hole in them. The ones that fit my model of M1 have had a second hole cut just below the first one. This is for the magazine catch. Is there a tool or die that anyone knows of?[8D]

  From best of memory, the M-1 and the M-1A Thompsons (G.I. types
  anyway) will interchange. I think you dont have all correct type
  mags. If you have a M-3 (greasegun) mag it needs a lot of modification to be used and not worth it. Thompson stick mags were
  in both 20 or 30 rd. capacity. 30 rd. mags were hard to come by in
  WW 2 as most seemed to be 20 rounders, at least where I was.
  If the mag physically fits, you could make a template from one
  that latches and use it to drill it and debur the inside real good.

  All Auto-Ordnance Thompson semi-automatic rifles (and the pistol versions) are built 1/10-inch out of spec so unmodified GI Thompson magazines will not latch into the rifle. While the magazines can be modified to fit by enlarging the latch hole, many believe it is better to modify the magazine latch in the rifle so as not to ruin valuable original 50-year old magazines.
  
  If your M1 is a full-auto original, the magazines should fit the same in all Thompsons without modification. If you are trying to use M3 magazines in your Thompson, I do not know what modification is necessary.

  The full auto stick mag has a round hole, whereas the semi-auto uses a stick mag with a larger oval hole. Perhaps you are confusing the two.[:)]
