kimber pro vs ultra
I am in the market for either a Pro or Ultra carry. The question is whether the extra barrell lenght and round(Pro) outweigh the smaller size of the Ultra?

I wouldn't trade my Ultra Carry for any other pistol I know of. It's great!
Measure twice, cut once.
Empty the clip!

I own a CDP Pro and have been happy with the 4" barrel. This is strictly a personal preference. I have a friend that has a 3" Ultra elite 3" Kimber that I have shot a good bit and I like it as well. I had the same question as you do when I picked the Pro. I chose it because I weight 225# and have no trouble conceiling it. I find the 4" gun easier to control. I also shoot the top end a good bit on my Custom Target frame and save the origonal Aluminum frame for carry purposes. I can't do that with the 3" barrel slide. I would look for an earier gun that doesn't use the new II series safety system as I don't trust the reliabilty of it. 0 -
Generally speaking a longer barreled 1911 tends to be more reliable and easier to shoot if all other factors are the same. For my money, I wouldn't be trustful of something shorter than a Commander length. The ease of shooting well at close range is much less important. Reliability is the main factor.

Another plus to the Pro is that the standard mags fit ~ a plus if you already have a full size 1911
