The model 42 was made between 1933 and 1963 and the price varies on grade, probably worth between 1200 to 2000

skinamarink, thank you for your input. I guess you said all that needed to be said! NObody else had a response. I have been watching an auction on here, and it is going in the price range that you said.

Hello Dusty. The Model 12 was intended from the start to look like a miniature Model 12 and was one of the very first .410 gauge pumps ever to reach production status. It was also one of the first ot use the then new 3" .410 shell, although the Model 42 could be ordered chambered for the old 2-1/2" .410 for the first year or two of production. These guns are not all that rare, Winchester made over 160,000 of them, but they have become VERY popular with collectors and small gauge shooters due to their quality construction and good looks. There were four or five different grade available and a number of options in each grade.

As time went by the Model 42 became too expensive to keep in production, the last retail price was around $101 and that was a hefty sum in 1963. With the revamp of Winchester production in 1964 it was decided to discontinue the 42. This was actually a good thing since it meant that the gun would not be cheapened like so many other Winchester products were in 1964. You will seldom find a decent Model 42 priced under $1000 and prices rise quickly as condition improves. Skeet Grade guns will generally retail for twice the price of a standard grade and a Deluxe Grade will sell for twice the cost of a Skeet Grade. Factor in options like solid or vent ribs and toss in the original box and factory papers and you'll see the price goes to very high levels very quickly.

No one mentioned the M42 Trap - Winchester made 233 of these little guns and they are very rare. I've only seen one, it came out of a collection in St. Louis and I immediately bought it. It's a nice little gun. I shoot all my M42 skeet guns, they're a great handling gun.
