REMINGTON 521-T

The 521-T was called the junior target model and went into production shortly after WWII and was discontinued in around 1970. Remington did not make all that many, somewhere around 70,000. The rifle was a take down model fitted with a variety of micorometer sights, mostly Lyman 57RS, and a plain target stock. Remington advertised this model as a combination hunting and target model. You can usually estimate the age of the rifle by whether or not it is serialized. I think serial numbers began in the mid 1950's.
Quite frankly the 521-T was a rather diappointing rifle as far as Remington sales were concerned. While it was supposed to be a good choice for target shooting and hunting it really did neither very well. It lost out to its big brother the Model 513 Matchmaster in sales for target shooters while the Model 582 was far more popular with the hunter/plinker crowd- it offered a more conventional hunting stock, weighed 1-1/4 pounds less, and cost about half the price. The list price for a 521-T in 1969 was $69.95. A brand new one today would probably retail in the $250 to $300 range, which is around $100 less than what I see Model 513's bringing (these cost only $20 more than the 521-T when new). These are still nice shooters and if you got it at a good price you should be very satisfied with it.

the Williams peep is not original; used Lyman 57 . Excellent little rifles, although a tad short on length of pull for a six foot adult. 0 -
The 521T I bought has a Redfield front globe sight just like the one on the 513. The rear peep was gone. I put a Lyman 57 peep on it. In order to use the Redfield globe, I had to put a riser on it; the Lyman would not adjust down enough to bring it in. I contend that at least some used Redfield sights. I bought this a trainer for use in boy scouts and 4-H shooting sports. My only complaint is the trigger pull is quite heavy (for a target gun) and isn't readily adjustable. 0
