Shoulder Stock

GB# 85027979 has a shoulder stock shown that would be perfect for a project i am in the middle of but am having a case of SMSS (senior moment search stupid)& no luck on finding mfg or info...i defer to the endless wisdom of this board & request anything you all can offer...thanks

  I have a NIB shoulder stock for a Smith-Wesson 44 SS single action revolver. hehehe, I think it must be worth something. Wonders how much in demand it is?

  Only thing I could find on a shoulder stocks for S & W, .44 cal. single action revolvers, was in "FLAYDERMAN".
  S & W made a grand total of 250 for the "Australian Colonial Police".
  It has the "Broad Arrow" property markings that is similar to the ones on British Military stuff.
  You have something very rare and valuable IF it can be substantiated as being part of this Australian order.
  Chances are, at best, you have some knock off made in India. This would only have value as a representative type of display piece.
  Because of the legal implications most collectors wouldn't want anything to do with it.

  If your shoulder stock can be proved to be original,You have a very valuable piece. Besides the Australian contract,the shoulder stock was offered in March 1873 for the Smith & Wesson Model 3 American Model and after 1876 it was available on the Smith & Wesson Model 3 Russian Model. The thing is that this was not a popular item and nobody knows just how many were made,but there were not many. You need to take this peice to someone who really knows S&W's and get an opinion as to whether the stock is original or not and to it's value. Another option is to take high grade photos of the stock from all angles and showing any and all markings and send them to Roy Jinks c/o Smith & Wesson 2100 Roosevelt Ave. P.O.Box 2208, Springfield,MA 01102-2208. Mr. Jinks is THE authority on S&W's and has access to all the existing S&W records. To show you how rare these stocks are,I have been colecting early S&W's for over forty years and have never seen an original shoulder stock,but I know that they exist. Best of luck, Scout

  RE; Smith and Wesson Shoulder Stock. Thanks fellas, appreciate your efforts. The box the stock comes in says for 44 SS Single Action, Smith & Wesson. Pictures in Mr Jenks book look very much like the stock. But wouldnt be my luck to have an original. I will send pictures to Mr. Jinks and get his opinion. Thanks again. Bill

  Let us know what Jinks has to say when you get your reply. I would like to add any information that you get to my data base and Iam sure that there are others who would like to do the same thing.

  Scout; I most certainly will. Probably will be awhile but I shall post it. BTW, I checked Mr. Jinks book. On page 78 is a picture of exactly what I have, except no box. Thanks again guys.
