Trying to find the value of an LC Smith Field Grade 16 Gauge Side by Side shotgun made in 1924. Looks to be in good condition. Thanks for any assistance.

I have an old LC Smith, it says Trap Grade Serial # FWE 114,XXX T. Im looking to trade for a superpose. Does anyone have an idea of value? Very good shape tight with original leather carry case 0 -
I suspect you do, indeed, have an Elcee with damascus tubes. Having such would place the gun in the pre WW1 era and you should be able to tell by the proofs on the barrel flats. (You may want to repost that information here.)
As to cutting the gun... It's yours, but there's a good chance you'll reduce the value of your Elcee by about the same amount you could buy a cowboy shooter for. In other words, the Elcee in any kind of condition is worth something to collectors.
If you do keep the gun as a cowboy shooter, then authentic loads are black powder and safe to fire in any damascus gun that will pass mechanical muster.
