I am not familiar with the problem you have, but I have a mdl 24 in 22lr over a 20. Sounds like the selector on the hammer might be worn. I am guessing the 30=30 is on top, and the selector is "pulled back" to fire it, like my 22. Might want to let a good gun smith take a look at it.

Taxation WITH representation isn't so hot either!

Sounds like it could be a weak or broken spring. Or a whole bunch of crud built up in the action itself. Go here for an on line manual. It indicates theres a firing pin re-new kit.

If it's hitting the primer in the correct location and if it appears it is hitting straight in, then I'd agree with sunray. I had some trouble with mine 22/410 that the stop for the selector and it was striking the rimfire cartridge more in the center of the rear (where yours should be firing). My gunsmith fixed it in less than 15 minutes. I'd clean it well, try another brand of ammo (just to be sure), and then either try the kit listed above, or take it to your gunsmith. I hope you get it going, these are neat guns...

It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...
