Repairing high gloss finish on Browning rifle

I've got a couple of chips out of the stock my Japanese Browning BAR 22. The wood at the bottom of these chips is undamaged, so I thought that I might be able to fill the holes with polyurethane, or some other synthetic. Has anyone had success with this kind of repair?

  I'VE HAD SOME SUCCESS WITH CLEAR EPOXY (BROWNELLS ACCRAGLAS) TO FILL IN THE MISSING FINISH THEN SAND THE STOK W/400 WET/DRY AND SPRAY WITH A GOOD GLOSS GUN STOCK FINISH (CHEM PAK, TRUE OIL). YOU'LL HAVE TO SPRAY THE ENTIRE STOCK.
