  I cant tell ya David but,I dont think its a shotgun.The barrel appeared to be rifled,they didnt have rifled slug barrel on guns that old did they?I would guess its a Blackpowder Rifle of some type?

  Hello David,
  The receiver you are asking about is a Marlin mdl 43,
  44, 53, or 63. It was a 12 or 20 ga pump action. It
  looks like it is missing the side plate. I don't know
  what the value is for it.
