Shotgun front bead thread size &pitch

Does anyone know for sure the diameter and thread pitch on the front bead of the Winchester Mod.50 with V.R? 12ga.I want to install a higher bead and hopefully can find an Ithica "raybar"to fit it.As is is now the gun shoots high on trap.

  I don't know the size for that specific model, but the most common size is 6-48, followed by 3-56 which is visibly smaller in diameter, and less common is 8-40 which is visibly larger. If you don't have a thread pitch gauge or a micrometer try gently screwing a 6-48 screw into the hole, and if it's too large or small you can pretty well assume that it will be either a 3-56 or 8-40. 6-48 screws are pretty common in the gunsmithing world and are what is commonly used for scope mounts and rings (although you'll find exceptions here, also).

  I had hoped to be able to avoid removing the sight until I was ready to replace it.Thank you for your info as to the possible sizes.I contacted my friend Karl in Germany and between the two of us we cannot translate what type or species of hunter you are.What is a Gebirgs jager(hunter)?

  Gebirgsjager is mountain soldier or mountain hunter. Berg is sometimes used as in Berg Adder.
