In the market for a AR-15
Want to buy a AR-15, but I have no past experience with one. Did look at a bushmaster and liked it. I want one for shooting practice and hunting varmits (maybe). Wanted to see what you people who own or have experience with ARs liked. What companies make good ARs and why do you like them?

I currently own three, one each from Amalite, Colt and Bushmaster. Each is different and all three are satisfactory for their intended purpose(s).
Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....0 -
The only thing wrong with an AR-15 is you never have enough of them. I have a Colt, fit and finish is good (shoots great too). The Bushmasters are good (most cost effective) and Armalite makes a very good rifle. Can't speak for the rest. Buy one of these and you won't be disappointed. 0 -
Kaos, the best value is in a Bushmaster but any of the A,B,C rifles are very good. Their ergonomic design and low recoil make them fun to shoot. You can find a ton of info on www.ar15.com The best all around rifle would be an AR15 w/16" bbl (shorty), great for target, varmits, ease of movement in confind quarters. The 20" bbl would be better for distance shooting and would obviously be a little more accurate farther out. The great thing about the AR15 design, you can get both a 16' and 20" upper and switch out. As the others have posted, you may end up with more than one. Or get one AR15 (.223) and then get an AR10 (.308) and have all your bases covered.[;)] 0 -
I have owned several AR type rifles. The Bushmasters and Armalite are Mil Spec. I like both of these much better than all the rest. For your money and what you plan to do with it I would go with Bushmaster. If you want a little better quality step up to Armalite. My 2 cents [8D]

don't forget about Rock River Arms every one that I've talk too says they good guns, I know thats what my next ones going to be 0 -
select-fire: Just an FYI Colt MFG has not produced an M-16 for the US Government in a long time. That contract went to another MFG company. The AR 15 that Colt makes today is not Mil Spec. The Bushmaster and Armalite are. My 2 cents [8D]

I have an Olympic PCR16 and it shoots great. No malfunctions with 3 different brands of magazine. Price is right.
