I have a pistol here with the "96" inside an oval near the ejection port. I assume the gun was made at that year. The question I have is, is this gun considered pre-ban? I live in California and supposedly, it is to come with 1 - 10rd and 1 - 15rd mag. I received 2 - 10rd mags instead. I bought the gun in 2002. This gun may fall into these laws of over 10rds is a no no here, but can I buy 15rd mags?

I don't believe that preban refers to handguns. But I'm not a CA expert.

drobs is correct. Pre-ban refers to when the magazines were made; so IF it is legal for you to purchase and possess pre-ban high cap mags. you can use them in the pistol. The "ban" exists on the mag. capacity for mags. mfg. after a specific date. The pistols are still mfg. to accept the higher capacity mag. Of course, since you are in CA, this might not be true tomorrow, and you may be required to turn them in! 0
