    I don't believe that preban refers to handguns. But I'm not a CA expert.

    drobs is correct. Pre-ban refers to when the magazines were made; so IF it is legal for you to purchase and possess pre-ban high cap mags. you can use them in the pistol. The "ban" exists on the mag. capacity for mags. mfg. after a specific date. The pistols are still mfg. to accept the higher capacity mag. Of course, since you are in CA, this might not be true tomorrow, and you may be required to turn them in!
