    Browning denotes the amount of choke in their barrels by using "ASTERISKS" or "STAR" markings.

    (1), "ASTERISKS" or "STAR" is FULL

    (2), "ASTERISKS" or "STAR" is MODIFIED

    (3), "ASTERISKS" or "STAR" is CYLINDER

    Thanks for the reply but I can't find any astericks or stars anywhere. Where should I look?

    Sir, the only other thing I can suggest is you check the bore diameter with a caliper.

    FULL CHOKE is approximately .694

    MODIFIED CHOKE is approximately .718

    CYLINDER BORE is approximately .730

    black chip, look on the side flats at the breech end of the barrels, generally on the left side. you've got to open the breech to see them.
    rufe-snow is close to the answer but no cigar.
    The marks are:
    * full choke
    *- improved modified
    ** modified
    **- improved cylinder
    **s skeet
    *** cylinder

    I'm not absolutely sure of the last two without checking them out but this should help you.
