Ruger .44 Mag. Rifle
What does anyone know about the Ruger.44 Mag.rifle? Are they a sought after item? What price could you expect to pay for one? I have only heard of them:never seen or held one. But was offered one for sale. BIG asking price. rubenj@imine.net

What model? Ruger has built several different 44 rifles. Was it an auto, lever, single shot?

Also in the semiautos, Ruger built the old 44 Deerstalker/Carbine and has a new 44 semiauto. 0 -
new ones retail for around $450 give or take , the older ones usually you can picked them up for a little less , in my area anyways 0 -
Yes, Yankee the old .44 auto carbines are in decent demand. The sporter, and international versions are in high demand. Most people (myself included), greatly prefer the older style to the new ones. The old ones are tube fed and look/feel more like a 10/22. The newer ones are clip-fed and look like they are based off of the Ruger Mini series (mini-14 and mini-30). I have had quite a few of these and finally got a sporter version, made in 1967, that I wouldn't trade. I have taken deer out to 75 yards with open sights and they are short enough for very close-up hunting.

Is yours a sporter too? I looked for 5 years before I found one in good shape, then I found another one within a month - when it rains it pours!

Cool, according to my gun book (gun traders guide), it only lists standard, sporter (finger-groove, sling swivels, & raised cheek-piece, and no barrel band), & international (mannlicher style stock).
I have had several of the standard versions and always had a problem of the stock "contracting" because of the barrel band. I even cracked one stock, but it was mostly my fault, it was really tight and I was working it out and the gun slipped and split. [V]
I have often wanted to get a 10/22 with the vintage sporter stock from around this same time (1967) also...

I got a look at the .44 it is an auto like the one in the picture. Has about the same scope I would say condition would be about one step below the one pictured above. What would be a realistic price? Not to steal it or ransom a king.
