Colt 1911 mags

I have two Colt magazines that wouldn't lock the slide back when the action was cycled. I removed the followers and put a slight bend (to push the top of the follower forward) on the back of them to give them more of an angle. This works as long as the mags are empty, but won't lock when the last round is fired. They feed flawlessly. Do I need to put a little more bend in them or find some new followers?

  If they are factory Colt magazines you may have a problem with your slide stop. If they are after market mags you may try replacing them with original Colt or Wilson mags.

  As hunter7737 stated, if they are Colt magazines, especially new ones that haven't been around the block a couple of times, the problem may be your slide stop. But, if they are used it could be the magazines, and if so, your description sounds like you're bending in the wrong location. Activation of the slide stop is controlled by the little tab that is at the front top left of the follower and is bent down in a dog leg. That is what you must bend slightly upward and perhaps just a little bit outward to engage the slide stop's internal lug. The back of the follower should not be altered from it's original configuration, and if you bent that part you'll have to bend it back to it's original shape; and then bend the tab on the front as described. What you have achieved is to hold the slide open with the magazine follower rather than the slide stop. What you want to accomplish is to get the tab to activate the slide stop.
