Military Ithaca Shotgun

I didn't get a good look at it in the Pawn Shop, but it seems to be parkerized and has a bayonet lug on it. He wants $450. Does anybody know anything of its history or worth.

  That's not it in the picture, but the description fits it to a T.
  Is it worth $450? It has the hand guard and bayonet lugs on it.

  If it falls into the SERIAL NUMBER range given in the link for the Military issue shotguns and it's in original excellent condition, I believe it's worth $450.

  This from the Blue Book:
  
  Ithaca Model 37 (Vietnam): parkerized finish with "U.S." on right side of receiver. Receiver and barrel are also marked "P". Serial applied on gun upside-down is from S1,000 to S23,500. Used in the Vietnam era. A very few original Trench guns with parkerized handguards have been noted.
  
  Riot Gun:
  
  70% = $350

  I don't know what current values are, but the Battery CO had an Ithaca pump in addition to his 45. He was a Captain that had been passed over for promotion two times and he was very upset at the prospect of being passed over a third time and being asked to resign from the USMC. One of his activities to build his credibility was to take that shotgun, get in his jeep (M151) and have his driver drive into Hwy 1, then down to Danang, then through the back streets of Danang, then back out to the fire base. the trip would start at sundown (curfew) and they'd roll in about dawn. He finally did get promoted to Major and his driver when to the psych ward.
  
  Don't know if the shotgun at which you are looking has had such excitement, but it would be nice if those old guns could talk!!

  Be sure to check the blue book for WWII serial #s.Ithaca made Model 37 trench shotguns during WWII. I know because I have one.
