Revolver won't revolve

I got an old H&R .38 that isn't revolving after the first shot unless you pull the trigger foward. After each shot the trigger goes about halfway back to were it's supposed to be. If I pull it foward it brings the next round up fine. Anybody no how to fix this problem. The gun isn't worth taking to a gunsmith. I can't find any obvius problems with it. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

  Assuming this is a double action piece, from your description it seems like the trigger return spring needs some attention. The trigger is supposed to return to the forward position after the hammer falls.

  rhmc24 may very well be right, thr trigger spring may be broken or slipped out of place.
  if you could give more info about any words written on the revolver i may be able to email you a parts brake down of it.
  its V shaped & you may be able to get one or make one from flat spring stock.
  i can point you to some parts places.

  Yep, sounds like a busted return spring to me too. You could try one out of a Smith or give Wolf Springs a call. They may be able to tell you which spring they have that may work. The chances of you finding an H&R spring are close to nil.

  Almost certainly, the trigger return spring is absent, broken or dead.

  If the trigger is returning halfway and then hanging up it sounds like this could possibly be due to a lack of lubrication and/or corrosion of the internals. This isn't an uncommon condition with older revolvers.
  
  The gun needs to be opened up in order to clean it properly, but if it's not to be used for defensive purposes and is just a plinker you can possibly get it running youself. Try loading it full of a good penetrating oil, like well shaken Break Free, and letting it soak overnight. After this, work the trigger back and forth a bunch and then flush it out with a good solvent to get the crud out. You'll then need to reapply penetrating oil or you'll end up with this happening again.

  It's a bad trigger return spring. These are "V" springs and you could try Brownells or Gunparts for one.
