RIFLE SCOPES
Does anyone know the quality of A1 optic scopes? They claim to have been making scopes for the military and are now starting offer there products to the pucblic. I have recently purchase a 300wsm model 70 in SS. I want to instal a 2.5 to 10 power scope with 50mm objective lens or a 3 to 12 power scope with 50mm objective lens. Should I also be considering AOE, range finder, etc.?

vivavilla, You did not say what kind of shooting you intend to do with your rifles but Burris Fullfield II or Signature scopes will handle just about anything you want to do with a .308. Others will be along to give to give their opinions and preferences and all will be good choices. My opinion is that Burris is the best value for the buck.

Do you mean shooting from a bench, or do you mean "benchrest" shooting.
if from the bench, then Burris or the weaver grand-slam series are affordable and clear with great repeatability. I have been hearing so much about the quality of the grand slam series scopes, that I went to the gunshop this weekend and took one outside. CRYSTAL CLEAR, and even picked up mirage on 9x. That is a sure sign of good glass in my opinion, especially considering it was 30 degrees outside, with very little heat rise from the field surface. I'll be trying one out on something this year.
if benchrest, then the weaver T36 is a great scope, as are the new 30mm tube, straight power benchrest leupolds.

I agree that Weaver Grand Slam is a fine scope for the price, I have one on my .308. I also agree that Burris Signature is pretty much top of the heap in mid-priced scopes (say, up to $500). I can't afford the German scopes, but Schmidt and Bender would be my choice. Take a look at www.bearbasin.com for decent prices. I would suggest that especially in optics you get what you pay for and you would be money ahead to save a little longer for a better quality scope that will do the job for you day in and day out under a variety of adverse conditions. You will eventually replace a cheap scope. 0 -
break the bank? I'd be looking at Burris 6-24 with Mil-dot reticle in the $550. price range. next step down Leopold variable under $500. then the weaver v series around $400. or the bushnell eleite series. my choice would definetly be in a variable. 0 -
I have two rifles and I have Bushnel scopes for both. They are inexpensive and do what I need them to do. Nothing fancy but they are reliable. P49
