Low Budget Scopes
I have always used leupold and burris scopes on my rifles. I have a new marlin .17 hmr and want to by a scope $100 dollars or less. Does anyone have any input on this price range. I realize the quality drops based on price, but I don't have much experience with the optics or companies in this price range.
Any suggestions? Favorites? or Good Deals?

Bushnell would be my choice at the low end. 0 -
I've had real good luck with Simmons. My brother-in-law recently had the AO mess up on his Simmons. He removed the scope and sent it back to Simmons and they fixed it and he had it back on his gun within 2 weeks. That is great service by any measure!

BSA seem fairly good for the money. A low recoil gun like that I don't think you will have a problem with them. 0 -
Something I know about. I have lots of glass on lots of guns. I have mostly Leupold. But I do have some glass of lesser quality. I Started collecting guns when I was 20 and had very little $$$. I now am 30 and doing much better in the $$ Dpt. I have had very good luck with the Simmons Scopes 3 total all 3X9 on 30-06,223,308. They have been good to me and I have had 0 probs. I also have Weaver's 2 total on a 22 Hornet over 12Ga 3X9 and a 6X14 on 22-250. They are dead on and have given me 0 probs. But the cheapest of them all is my Tasco 3X9 I put on my 10/22 that I got when I was 20y/o. That thing has been to hell and back and is still dead on. It is the only tasco that I own but is great. I baught it BNIB at a military exchange on sale for $16. It was 75% off so I could not pass it up. I live in Alaska and the conditions here are harsh to say the least. Check the sales and see what you can get, if you look hard you will do good.

If you find a good looking tasco, be sure it says "made in japan" the usa made models were the ones with the most problems.
I would take a hard look at the Bushnell trophy as suggested by He Dog. Fully coated, amber optics make them very clear edge to edge, and I have had no problems with the 2 I own.
The weaver V series are very clear, for only a few bucks over $100

If you can still find one, I would recommend the World Class Tasco 3x12 40 mm adjustable objective rimfire scope. I put one on my Thompson Center Classic 22 rifle, and was so impressed that I picked up a spare when they blew them out for less than $60 with rimfire rings. I payed $87 for the first one and thought that was a deal after I got it and put it on the rifle. I have one of the cheaper 3x9 Tasco rimfire scopes on a Marlin 39A and there is no comparison in the clearness of the optics. 0 -
try cdnninvestments.com, they still have some tasco 6X18 target scopes for under $100 but you will have to have your marlin drilled and taped so you can use real scope mounts (as opposed to the groved reciever mounts). the rimfire mounts aren't high enought for this scope. 0 -
Try the Simmons Autec, BSA Plat Target, or Millet Buck Gold.

I agree with the guys voting for Bushnell. I've used them all my life and like the product so much I ended up working for the company. I'm not telling you to go out and buy a Bushnell but at least take a look at them. One of my first scopes was a Banner 4-12x40. It has held up great on my .223. I've had it on there for a long time and had no problems with it. Check them out the are a solid scope. 0
