-------Leupold vs. Thompson Center vs. Burris
I'm doing some research on the quality of pistol scopes. I plan to use this scope (probably a 3-9) on a Magnum Research 45-70 BFR, Rem XP-100 in .308, and a .454 Casull.
Is the optical quality of a Thompson Center as good as the Leupolds and Burris scopes?

I have had real good luck with the Burris rifle scopes and I think they are a better value than Leupold. On the pistols I have, in my opinion, found that the eye relief of the Burris pistol scopes did not agree with my long arms, but the Thompson does. I know there are some who will say that the eye relief is the same but I felt short armed by the Burris. JM2CW.

Often time the occular eyepiece isn't correctly adjusted on handgun scopes, and that will make a difference in eye relief.
There are two different Burris scopes that can be used.
Long eye relief (hand gun), and Intermediate (scout style).
Depending on arm length, and /or mounting position one or the other will work.

I have had very good luck with my Leupold hand gun scopes. I have two of them one is on a BFR 45-70 as well. It does very good and I don't think that you could go wrong with one from Leupold. You may not want that much magnification it will be very hard to keep steady at nine power. If it is just a target gun that you will use at the range with arest it should be ok. If for hunting I think it will be to much mag. I am only speaking from my own trials with pistol hunting. I will say though that I hunt in Alaska and in heavy cover so I don't need lots of mag.

If you are shooting during the day, handgun scopes are nice. I would say burris or leupold would be best. BUT if you are hunting, and most shots are at dusk, try to see anything with an outstretched arm through that little 1" tube. In my experience, You won't even see the crosshairs. Everyone I know who HUNTS with a pistol, has gone to the red dots or holo-site scopes. I went with the 35mm leupold/gilmore red dot, and havn't been sorry.
