What are the opinions on the Rossi Model 462?
From what I have seen/read, it is relitivly cheap, the caliber I would want, and looks erogonamic(or what ever that word is for comfortable). It looks to be the perfect under the pillow type revoler. How dependable is it? I am relitively new to this hobbie/sport, but I have never heard of Rossi. Are they known for being dependable, or are they the type of company that would let customers dangle in the wind when there is a problem? Any opinions appreciated.

While giving self defence classes I have come across several Rossi revolvers. Those that were manufactured after about 1985 seem to be of good quality and were compleatly reliable. I can't address their warranty record.[^]

Jason - You went right to the heart of the matter: "relatively cheap." Rossi has been around for quite a while, going through changes and marketing fairly inexpensive items. My son's first firearm was a Rossi 22 pump "youth carbine" which looks like a pretty close knock-off of a Winchester gallery model. That little rifle is probably 20 years old now and I'd like to know how many 50-round boxes that rascal has had shot through it (by a dozen or so different boys and girls, too). It's a take-down and the insides got hosed out fairly often with aerosol WD40 then oiled up again, and we have never had any real problems with it. Now that's probably a stretch as far as what you're looking at, but my only personal experience with Rossi has been positive. Best, Jim

The fact that they got bought out by Taurus makes alot of sence, because this revolver that I am looking at, looks identical to an old Taurus revolver that my father has. I'm glad to see that Rossi seems dependable so far. Living in Vegas, I wonder if I can find one at a local range to rent or test fire.
Anybody got any negatives about Rossi or this revolver.

The fact that teh company was bought by Taurus should say it all. Get a Ruger, I think you'll be happier in the long run.

Covered in tool marks, poorly assembled, cheap, junk. We sent them back. Rossi sold really inexpensive firearms and likely got caught up in 'if they're that cheap they must be no good' syndrome. Up here they've always been seen as cheap junk that came from Italy. 0 -

Taurus, is crap. That better?
Save an extra $50 and get yourself a Ruger. Most shops allow you to pay over 30 days, put what $$ you have now on a Ruger & pay it over the next month.
On a serious note, a good friend of mine bought a Rossi .357 snubby pre-Taurus, has never had a problem with it.

We have a .44 special Rossi,bought it about ten years ago.I would't do it again.It's an "ok" gun,but after about 75 rounds you almost can't pull the trigger through.The cylinder pin(that the cyl.revolves on)looks like a third grader made it.The rest of the gun looks ok though.
I too would advise putting the money down on a Ruger,or even a good used 'Smith.
'Course,I could got the only bad one.:)0
