S&W new .50cal revolver
Any opinions on this new revolver by s&w? I'm not sure if it's even out to the dealers yet? It is listed on the s&w website and they bill it the most powerful revolver in the world. Any comments?

LA Times had a small article in their online edition about it. Surprising since they refuse gun advertising. Supposedly three times the power of the 44 magnum. 0 -
It was on the national news tonight and how it would kill any animal on the face of the earth. They said it sold for $995.00. Someone posted a picture of it on the general forum,it looked good. I wonder
how how many pieces it would break your wrist when you shoot it.
With all that said I have to have one.
"It was like that when I got here,I think"0 -
It's rather pricey to shoot; once they have reloading dies and components for it, it should do pretty well. I suspect there will also be a decent market in used guns. As with the 44 mag, not many will have the willingness to handle the recoil.
I'd like a snubby model. Imagine the BGs getting that big bore pointed at their piggy snouts.

How is this round supposed to relate to the .50 AE or .454 Casull? Does anyone have a comparative picture of the rounds side by side?
It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...0 -
Considering that they bill it as 3x the power of the 44 Mag, it should be a lot more powerfull than the 50 AE or 454 Casull. The 50 is only 30-50% more powerful than the 44, and the 454 is up to twice as powerful. Got to have a hellaciously heavy bullet going at a pretty high velocity. I, personally, will NOT be shooting one of these monsters. [;)] 0 -
I shot a Taurus 454 ONCE. Never again! I am not that recoil sensitive, but that bas$#@$ jumps! So I guess I will leave Smiths new offering alone.
Taxation WITH representation isn't so hot either!0 -
A quick search for "50 S&W Magnum" turned this up too...

Theres a photo down the page some showing how this new, rimmed, round stacks up against other Big Boys.
The Hunter model - 10" barrel, compensated, with integral Weaver-type 'scope rail - looks like a great way to spend my 2002 tax refund check!!0 -
That is definately an intimidating looking round. I'd love for someone to make a carbine that would chamber this round. Especially if they based it off of the old-style Ruger .44.
I too think it'd be more than I'd want to touch off in a pistol caliber...
Thanks for the links for the pics spclark!

I have gotten permission from the mistress of the checkbook to get one. I just asked my local dealer to see if he could get me one...IF I'm successful and no one else posts the test fire results I'll let you know if I lived.[:p][:)][:D][}:)][;)][8D][:o)][8)][:I]Ain't toooo happy am I? 0 -
taken out of their 2003 catolog it states the 500 S&W has the following muzzle energy ratings, 2600ft/lb, and the 454 casull at 1900ft/lb, 480 ruger 1315ft/lb, 44 mag 900ft/lb, 357 mag at 500ft/lb , it does not state what the bullet weight is or the vel. 0
