7.62x39 or .223

Im pretty sure Im going to get a Saiga rifle. It seems to be a "good" rifle for the price. Now do I get a .223 or 7.62x39. Accuracy at 200 yds is my objective. Semi auto is what i want so a bolt action is not an option.Thanks for all the previous info.

  .223, depending on what you're doing with it. 7.62 x 39 ammo can have .308 calibre bullets or .311. .223 is always .223.

  I like both of those rounds. If you are talking just plinking then I would go with the .223. If you are thinking maybe deer hunting & plinking with it then I would go with the 7.62 X 39. Yes you can take deer with the .223 I just believe that the 7.62X39 is better. My 2 cents [8D]

  7.62x39 ammo is actually cheaper to shoot than .223. If that helps anything. As mentioned before, I know a lot of people hunt with this caliber. I heard that the Siaga mags can actually be cut down simply to 5rds for hunting. My experience with this rifle was in 7.62x39. I'm planning on buying one in that caliber soon. I haven't seen how the .223 version works.

  I have a Saiga 7.62 X 39. Ammo is way cheaper than .223 ammo. You can use softnose ammo to deer hunt. I like mine a LOT recommend it over a .223 for overall value.

  Not to mention in some states a .223 isn't a legal caliber for deer or other big-game...
  For varmits, I'd personally take the .223, for everything else, I'd take the larger 7.62 x 39.
  
  It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...
