maybe my minds not made up
Okay so I was going to go with the 280 rem. but yesterday I had the oppurtunity to shoot a friends 308. I think I might want to go in this direction. Any advice on which gun? Remington,Ruger,Browning,Winchester,or other? All advice is really appreciated. Thanks

Savage bolt action. There ae assorted models. Best bang for your buck. Highest quality, best accuracy, right out of the box for less money than any of the others. http://www.savagearms.com/ 0 -
Sunray is probably correct that Savage is the the best bang for your buck in that Savage rifles are very accurate out ot the box, and the new triggers are adjustable (be sure to hold out for the new one if you go Savage). They are working rifles and not real pretty. If you want pretty, go with Remington model 700. 0 -
I will third the motion on the Savage, And second what Hedog said about the Remington. Have both, Love both.

I own a Browning and it is without a doubt the best rifle I have ever shot. I here good things about the new Savages but have only shot one and it was the old style and not worth bragging about. If the new ones are as good as I've heard I wouldn't mind trying one out. If I could choose any that you mentioned and money wasn't an issue I'd definately go with the Browning though, sweet trigger, sweet accuracy and sweet looking to boot.

I am going to vote for the .280 even though that's not the question[:D]
I'm a man,....but I can change,.....If I have to,......I guess.0 -
.308 is good. If you have the time and money look for a Pre 1964 Winchester. If not get one of the new Winchesters. My 2 cents [8D]

I'd throw in the Remington 700 series... The cheaper 700 adl has already been listed, they also have very nice deluxe models that are SWEET! I like the 700 Sendero SF, but they don't offer it in either of those calibers (for this year). More info: http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/centerfire.htm
The caliber decision should depend on what you need it for. If you are going for larger game, I'd take the .308, if you want it for flatter shots on whitetails, I'd take the .280. I'd think real serious about going with the .270 instead... Just my 2 cents worth.
It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...0 -
I have read in several articles the 280 is one of the best mid size ,deer, goat, mule deer calibers available.
The 7mm has better ballistic coefficient than the .308 I believe.
Either one would be fine.
Frank Barnes states it is an excellant long range cartridge.
If I was to buy a new rifle it would be the .280.
