Another question about "Volunter" 20 guage

Wrote in last week with a question about an old single shot 20 guage. Only markings on it are "volunter" and made in the USA choke. El Capitan wrote back desribing gun to a T. He said it was made by Stevens. New question is what type of choke do ya'll think it has and would it be safe to shot a slug through it? Thanks B.C.

  Most often full choke, but any good smith can check it.
  
  I think you already know that this is a utility gun at best. It has no real value beyond its ability to toss a load of lead, nor will it in the future.
  
  Assuming the gun is in good physical condition, that the tube is of fliud steel, and the action is tight... Then there should be no problem tossing a slug.
  
  Still, the real reason these guns were made is that they were cheap and offered a way for young lads to put some small game on the family table during the day and protect the hen house at night. In other words... A good farm tool.
