Help!!! Shipping a flintlock from US to Canada.

Hi there,

I have a question about UPS (or other options?!) shipping a flintlock rifle from US to Canada.

I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
I won a bid on a Thompson - Center Hawken flintlock rifle from GunBroker.com.
According to the agreement with the seller (he lives in Forest Lake, MN, USA) I sent him the money order. We agreed that he sends the rifle not even to me but to my local gun dealer. And guess what?! He tried yesterday to send me the rifle. They refused to accept the parcel for shipping. I called UPS this morning, they say they can't ship a firearm to Canada. I guess they don't do or don't want to do any exceptions.

Please help. I won that rifle, I paid for it. What should I do to get it?

  Did you not look into this before you decided to buy a firearm from a foreign country? You're running into US law. They now require an excessive amount of paperwork to export anything that goes bang. Then you run into our excessively stupid laws. Unless the seller can go to another carrier, Fedex, etc, you're only recourse is to drive down there to get it. And you're still going to run into the laws of both countries. You can't legally buy a firearm there. US Federal law. If money exchanged hands you didn't win it, you bought it.
  It does not have to be shipped to a dealer in Canada. Once it's on our side, US law does not apply. However, the seller may be required by State law to ship to an FFL. Our dealers don't have that.

  At this time I am having a similar problem with
  a set of Dies that are in Canada and I'm in the
  U.S.A. I didn't do my homework.
  However, I reciently recived a muzzel loader from
  Cal. that was shipped to Oregon via the USPS.
  NO PROBLEM.

  I buy a lot of muzzle loader parts, barrels, and almost complete muzzle loader guns on e-bay (E-bay will not let complete guns)from Canada. I have sold the same to Canadain residents as well and we ship all through parcel post. Ask the person that you bought the TC from to take the barrel off and ship the barrel and stock in seperate boxes through the U.S. Mail. You do not have to mark it as a gun that way, they are Canadian legal parts. It is not illegal to ship parts, that I know for sure. One thing though is ship with no flint in the lock.

  Things didn't work out. I lost the rifle. The seller returns the money. He says he tried everything possible.
