I received a couple of guns from my father-in-law, and I'm trying to find out some info on them.

One is a .22 autoloader, model 87A. Looks in decent condition, I know for a fact it has been shot in the last 10 yrs or so. A friend of his re-finished the stock.

The other is a 20 ga. bolt action, Model 58. Again, I know it's been shot in the last 10 years.

My questions are:

Are they worth anything "collector-wise"?

Where could I get my hands on the "owner manuals"?

They'll be safe for my 12 year old to shoot, right?

  Windlaker-Although there is not much collector interest in the Stevens models you mention,they are both fine guns.If in decent condition,they both are perfectly safe to shoot.If the mdl.58 is an older one,it is probably chambered for 2 3/4" shells only.The mdl.87a is chambered for 22 long rifle,and safe with any modern ammo.Since both guns are now discontinued,it may be hard to find a owners manual for either.In my opinion,either or both,should be great for a 12 year old or adult.

  I can tell you a little something about the Mod.87 you will see marked on the barrel,.22 Short Long or Long Rifle .Long Rifle Only as Automatic.This gun is a bolt action semi auto.After you load the magazine with .22 Long Rifle you pull back the bolt and let it go foward (do not push in the knob) this is how you fire it semi-auto.Pushing in the knob it's a bolt action.You pull out the knob and retract the bolt.When it goes foward you must push the knob back in again, now it's a bolt action.You do it this way to shoot shorts or (if you can find them) longs.Many thousands of these guns were made.Mostly without any serial numbers.This was before the Gun Act of 1968.Hope this is of some help.
