What are everyones thoughts on the walther P22, Im looking for a .22 that everyone from my parents, girlfriend and myself can enjoy. I really love the look of the walther, any PRO's and CON's I should know about?

    Hello All,

    I would like to know if I can lessen the trigger pull. If so, how would I go about doing it?
    Is there another trigger group I could buy, etc.

    I'm gonna repost my thoughts on this gun from a previous thread on this one. Quick summary = Don't buy one.

    Just recently we had an irrate customer bring in her P22 that came with the extra 6" barrel, the hex screw threads under the barrel extension stripped. There's another one we have to send back.

    Let me repeat myself, don't buy one of these guns.

    Get yourself a Browning Buckmark or a Ruger Mark II. Either one is a perfect 22 auto and will function flawlessly.

    I own one; I've only put 800 or so rounds through it.

    I LOVE the way it feels and shoots--when it shoots reliably. I had to do a bit of "tuning" to get it to work "well"--which still wasn't 100%.

    The only problem I couldn't resolve was the last round in the magazine often will not feed--I suspect due to a (design flaw) weak magazine spring. Walther Customer Service said there is not a stronger spring available and to just send the gun to them to repair--it's with them now.

    If they don't fix it, I'll have to find a new mag. spring myself--I can't find it in me to get rid of something that just "feels so good."

    Nothing has broken on mine; it appears to be "pretty hardy." Sometimes (regarding Drob's comments) people break things when they don't know how to handle them properly--the descriptions of breakage given is consistent with "operator error"--somebody used "brute force" where they weren't supposed to.

    Walther makes the P22 in Germany; Smith and Wesson imports/markets them here (they might make some of the parts too). I don't think Taurus is involved. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

    My P-22 is made in Germany. It will never outshoot my Ruger MK-II, but it's not suppose to! Fits my hand like a glove. It did misfire the first round through it, but never again. I haven't put as many rounds through it as Comp, maybe 200. As far as I am concerned, it's a keeper. I can't dump it anyway. I'm waiting for my stamp for the screw-on ... oh, I probably shouldn't talk about that!

    Bought one w/3.5 " bbl. for my wife. She absolutely LOVES it. It is quite ammo picky, though. But I find most .22's are. If you don't have the patience or wallet to try many different ammo brands, don't waste your time. I found it did not like Federal or Winchester. Hers likes Remington Golden Bullet or most CCI specialty ammo (Stinger/Velocitor/Green Tag).

    Mine has shot very good and functioned perfectly, only 150-200 rds of hi-velocity (which is recommended in the owners manual). Groups good for a short pistol. Makes a great pack/trail gun.

    Walther had a problem with the clips for the P22.After a few hundred rounds they failed to feed properly.I got 2 replacements from a dealer and they fit and fed OK but failed to lock the slide back after the last shot.Swapped the original springs out and discovered they were 3/4" shorter.Put them in the new clips and no problem.Sent the gun to S&W where they fixed the stripped hex screws on the "compensator" and sent it back with 2 new magazines that fit feed and function just fine.I have 2500 rounds through my P22 and think it's a real hoot to shoot.
