Hi Standard Military HD
On top of the slide is a spring loaded button & on the right side of the slide is a small screw. Numrich calls these parts the Pickup spring button & the Pickup spring screw. What is the function of these parts ? Anyone know where I can get disassembly & assembly instructions for this type of pistol? Thanks, Leo.

I have an early blued HD Military Model USA and marked US Property. The purpose of the button on the top of the slide is to enable you to disassemble the pistol and the screw holds the spring mechanisim for the button. To disassemble you pistol first remove the magazine, cock the hammer manually, pull the slide to the rear and while holding it depress the button. You will feel the slide "lock up" internally and it will travel freely on the frame with no resistance. As I understand it this is the firing pin being locked. At this point you can depress the take down latch on the rear right side of the frame and remove the slide.
To reassemble simply replace the slide onto the frame and by dropping the hammer the slide should unlock- if not just cycle it a few times. These High Standards are outstanding pistols and my old military model is still one of my favorite shooters. I just love the grip angle on these and the early Woodsmans as they fit the hand perfectly. My pistol shoots as good today as it did during WWII when the old vet I got it from decided that Uncle Sam had more than enough of these target pistols in inventory and would not miss this one.
