Weatherby Olympian O/U Recoil Pad - Removal?
I have a Weatherby Olympian O/U with a thick honey comb style recoil pad. I need to get it off to get to the bolt in the stock. How do I do that?
The main bolt inside my stock appears to have worked loose a bit and is not holding the receiver tight against the stock. There's some play in the joint between the stock and the receiver and you can hear the bolt move inside the stock if you give the stock a good thump. The worst thing is that the weight of the receiver and barrels and the shock of recoil started a hairline crack in the grip of the stock before I realized what was happening.
The problem is that I can't find a way to get the recoil pad off in order to get to the bolt in the stock. It's a thick Weatherby honey comb style recoil pad and it has no visible screws attaching it to the stock. How do I get it off? I am more than somewhat perplexed.

Recoil pads will generally have two screws holding them onto the wood stock. It will be hard to find the heads of the screws as the rubber slit to the screw heads is a very small slit. When you discover this slit the next problem will be to determine wheather the screw is slot or phillips. A little silicone on the screwdriver shaft will keep the shaft from tearing up the pad when removing the two screws.

Greg is a nice person and, if possible, answer your question. This is the repair and refinish division of the Co. Told me that he had over two thousand guns a year for repair. They do no wood work but sublet it out. Makes you wonder about the quality and durability....1010
