You should check with the mfr' for the specs.
Some are different, and over torquing can set up a 'bridge tension" on the receiver that will not allow consistent groups, and can change dramitacilly with tempature.
Conversely, under torquing will allow for a receiver to 'walk' in the stock which is a negative effect.

what exactly is "torking" ? do you mean torque? as in rotational energy?

chuck, check in the Sinclaire int'l catalog. They sell a leupold tork wrench just for stocks. I don't know if it is adjustable, so you should ask. I do know that most all synthetic stocks of NEW production, recoommend 65 inch pounds, but as "Guns and Glass" stated, IT PAYS TO ASK FIRST. Call the manufacturer and talk to the right people.

It makes a difference if you're tightening against a bushing or pillar and if you're tightening against wood. When you have a bushing you can tighten them pretty snug. You make sure it's snug enough to also be tight with the wood, not crushing it or allow it to be too loose.
You may have to shorten or lengthen the bushing so it all comes together with the correct tension. This is where the sense of feel comes in. Pretty hard to establish a torque value here.0 -
Maggie, Yes tork means rotational energy. We are talking about how hard to make up action screws. Tork can be expressed as Ft pounds or Inch pounds. On small screws you would use Inch pounds.
As G&G pointed out it pays to have it correct. In the old days, With wood. We tended to use (Feel). Now stocks can be bedded any number of ways. So it is not real smart to just muscle up on the screw driver. Come to think of it, It wasn't to smart in the old days.

I've got two Springfield 03s, that a smith named Mashburn built for me. He testfired the finished product, adjusting the stock screws until they proved to be optimum, then drilled and tapped for a small screw whose head locked the stockscrew in place. POI never changed 'til I rebarreled them. New barrels are bedded with a sleeve so I tork them 'til they're tight.
Maggie: Don't ya know it's a sign of brilliant intellect to propose an alternate spelling that everyone undertstands instantly? Tork is so much easier to spell and read than torque (tor'kew).

Hey, cat. Quit teasing the guy. Just be thankful spelling doesn't count here. There's always Peter Tork the Monkee. 0 -
