Whats the cheapest with decent accuracy and reliability 7.62x39 rifle you can get in California?

Don't tell me its the Mini-30 .

  There is a CA-approved Yugo SKS available. Looks like the original but the grenade launcher has been replaced by a muzzle brake. Probably be your best bet. If you get one though, don't put a detachable mag on it, that'll put you in the dreaded "assault weapon" category. [;)]

  Check out Shotgun News, I think Southern Ohio Guns (SOG) has them.
  Looks like their website is down though. I agree on the SKS: fun, accurate, & cheap to shoot.
  
  PS. Maybe Mark will chime in on the leagality of the SKS mentioned.

  I went to a gun show at the Orange County Fairgrounds last week & there were plenty of SKSs available. There is also an AK look-alike that is actually a pump action. Problem is to define what is meant by "decent accuracy".

  Question should be what is decent accuracy with 7.62x39 in a semi auto. After owning both a Mini 14 & a SKS. I give the SKS the award for best accuracy out of a $139 rifle. Much better than a Mini at 100yds.

  I was wrong about the SKS. The no evil feature with fixed mag SKS is still legal in CA. I've seen that pump action AK, no thx. It looks kinda hokey to me.

  I suggest that you purchase an SKS. The only model SKS carbines that are banned are the ones with detachable magazines (factory or add on- it makes no difference) and the Yugoslavian model which is fitted with a grenade launcher and the launcher is considered to be a destructive device- grenade launchers have been banned in this state for many years. If you are looking for something cheap, that will mean a Chicom or perhaps a Romanian SKS if you spend a bit more. The nicer Russian carbines and the unusual Albanian ones go for more money and may bust your budget.
  
  The Ruger Mini-30 would also be an option, but at around $675 list I'd say it is well over your price limit. Since the Ruger Mini 14/ Mini 30 are just about the only game in town here in California for a detachable magazine semi auto rifle that even looks slightly "military" (besides an M1A or M1 Carbine) very few dealers seem willing to discount these rifles.
  
  The pump action AK rifles leave me unimpressed- I took a good look at them at the Century Arms booth at last years SHOT Show in Las Vegas and they are simply marketed for California consumption and will be worthless if and when you ever leave this state. I honestly can't see any real use for a pump action Kalashnikov even if it does manage to beat the state AW ban. Folks who purchased Special California fixed 10 shot lower receiver AR-15 types and are now regretting it as they cannot find anyone who wants to purchase these rifles now that they are in a "free state". These are just my opinions and others may feel differently.
