    Mike..... The Colt Cowboy is a less expensive version of the SAA (Single action army) The cowboy has a transfer bar system where the firing pin is in the frame instead of on the hammer like the SAA.

    New in the box they are about $600.00, about half the cost of the SAA.
    It is a good shooter, and I dont know how many have been made so far.
    It was introduced in 1998 as a less expensive gun for Cowboy shooting, which has been the fastest growing shooting sport.
    The .45 colt cartridge is a definite man stopper, even more so when shot out of a rifle with the increased velocity.
    The cowboys of the old west liked to carry a pistol and rifle in the same caliber so they had to carry only one type of ammo.
    I think your dad will have no regrets when he buys it.
