Info on J.P. Sauer
Need to know if there is a book on J.P. Sauers that is out there with reliable info on a gun I just received.
It is a 20 ga O / 6.5 x 57R U. Tight and looks kinda good and has some engraving on it. Would like to get some history on it and determine a value range.
Can anyone assist in this taskZ?
ThanX

You seem to have a Combo BBF 54 O/U, With engraving it's called the Luxury Grade. 100% cond. $2,450 down to 60% $1,300.Get an apprisal,it could be worth a good sum of money.I got this information from The Blue Book Twenty First Edition.

ATF - Forgot to mention. Was told the gun may be somewhere in the 50-80 yr old range. Still the BBF Model? 0 -
The BBF was not introduced until the mid 1950's when German arms companies were allowed to resume production of sporting arms. If I recall the only shotgun gauge available with the BBF was 16 bore. Twenty bore is rather unusual for a European O/U when matched with a metric rifle caliber- 16 bore was the norm. If this is a pre war gun it could be valuable but much more information is needed: How extensive is the engraving? Is this coin finished, what type of action- Greener, Blitz action, box lock, Kersten lock? What is the trigger arrangement? A front set trigger would activate the rifle barrel or is there a selector? What type of stock does it have- Monte Carlo, hog back or what? I totally agree with ATF that you'll need to have a professional appraisal done by a qualified expert if you want to put an acurate value on this piece.

Contact Jim Cate through the German Gun Collectors Association. He has written a book on Sauer Pistols. If he can't help you in regard to your Sauer Combination Gun he probably can steer you to somebody who can.
