Mosin Nagant Questions
A couple of months ago I bought a Mosin Nagant M44 carbine. It shoots a little to the right. I have tried to push the front sight with a hammer and punch, but to no avail. Does anyone know if they make and where I could find a sight pushing tool for it, similar to those made for the AK? Also, I find the recoil to be kinda stiff on this gun. Does anyone know if there is some type of slip-on type recoil pad? I'd prefer this to some type of screw on alteration. I saw FAC has one for AR's. Would this work on the Mosin?

1.As far as accuracy goes is there any difference between a SAKO or VKT firearm.
2.Is a Finnish M39 superior to a Russian M44?
3.What is the best source for low cost 7.62 x 54 ammunition either corrosive or non corrosive?
4.What is the best source (condition as described) for this weapon ie, InterOrdanance, SOG or CenterFire or??

I'm no expert, but:
1. Not as far as I've been able to find out. The Sako does seem to command higher prices.
2. Emphatic yes, though it is of course longer and heavier and doesn't have the incredibly useful--if you're worried about bears charging you when you're out of ammo--folding bayonet.
3. Get a copy of Shotgun News and look through the ads, or go to Milsurpshooter.net and look at the Mosin-Nagant forum. This question is asked a lot. I've bought through J&G Sales in Prescot AZ and been satisfied.

I have never been able to see any real differences in the quality of construction between these manufacturers. The Model 39 is FAR superior to the Russian Model 44. Although the wood stock on the M39 looks like a simple pistol grip type it is actaully a rather complicated affair consisting of two seperate pieces of wood joined together. A special wood was selected for use in the forearm to prevent warping and fitting the forearm to the stock requiered a very complicated three-finger interlocking joint and demanded the use of skilled wood workers. Pre war testing demanded that each M39 rifle be able to place a three shot group into a 30mm circle at 100 meters- if the rifle failed it was rejected and scrapped. The Finns used this same rifle for many years in post war international military shooting matches and always earned high scores. The Model 28/30 is considered to be the more accurate- but the M39 is up to nearly any shooting task. The other information you seek will require that you do a little foot work; visit some gun shows, gun shops, or make some phone calls to companies in the Shotgun News or Gun List.

Look at the Wolf Ammo line. It is pretty cheap for 7.62x54. I have a M44 myself and Wolf shoots through it pretty well.

You can get a good M39 from Wholesale Guns and Ammo. 0 -
1. The "general" accuracy is the same, sako is just rarer, so they do cost more.
2. The fin is all around better than the M-44.
3. There are hundred of dealers out the selling ammo for the nagant. You should be able to get good surp for about .10 a round, I just bought 440rnds of 80's russian fro $40 at a gun show. For me it seems like the gun shows are a better deal so you can save on shipping.
4. Like the ammo, there are a lot of comapnies selling mosins.IO is one of the better ones you listed with centerfire being the worst for quality-price. You also have JG sales, Aim, and if you do a search you'll find a 100 more. Like already stated you can get a lot of realy good info at milsurpshooter.net, and they also have a for sale page too.0
