.22 S.M.L.E.
i've just received a .22 SMLE cadet training rifle. Single shot. Magazine is blocked off. This is the same as the 303 but rebarrelled for .22 and rebolted with .22 extractor. I believe made only in Australia for Cadet training. Value? rarity?

I don't know about the Short Model Lee Enfield [SMLE] but I can tell you about the LEE-ENFIELD No 2 Mk IV in.22 Long Rifle Caliber...These rifles were quite common here in the States for many Years, as they were sold as surplus...When found in exceptional Condition Command a Premium...If This is the Type of Enfield you have, it should have the Lithgow Arsenal Mark..denoting Australia...and have the Kangaroo overstamp...I also know where one is, in Mundaring Australia...if your interested in contacting the collector for information about this style and type of Rifle....contact me and I'll give you the address...
Then comes the LEE-ENFIELD No. 7 Rifle in .22 rimfire caliber, these rifles were made up for use by the ROYAL AIR FORCE as trainers. The .22 caliber coversion of the No.4 to No.7 was first attempted by the Long Branch Arsenal in Canada...Best.....

I believe that there are enough variations of these to make an interesting collection. The one I've got is marked: BSA Co. 1916, SHT LE III* (the III* has a strike out through it) No 2 IV* . I suspect you can find these converted from all makes and years. 0 -
Thank you both. Yes it is a No2 mark IV. Any ideas about the value? Say I were to sell one, or even find one in a gun shop in the USA?

I'm no expert on British Military arms by any stretch, but thought it may also interest you to know that there was a .410 bore single-shot shotgun version of one of those guns that was also made. Seems I recall that they were for the Royal Navy, but I'm not sure of that. (probably so they could shoot a little trap during lulls in battle) [:o)][:D]

Well, Plads, these have certainly gotten out of the $5 range! Like any other gun value a great deal depends on condition. I'd value them at $125 for NRA Good to $225 for NRA Excellent. There aren't as many around as you would think--I haven't seen any at the local gunshow for about 10 years! 0
