Contact the seller asap! If no one else bids on it he'll have to do the "Non Paying Bidder" thing to get his final value fee back and you might get a nastygram from GB. Believe me, As a seller, I would much rather have the bidder come forward on his own than the email wars and "checks in the mail" rigamarole. 0 -
Some sellers will also let you just pay the small final value fee and still give you positive feedback (if you do the same), then they just relist. I agree with P3, contact the saller as soon as you can. It is best to handle it through them, the non-paying buyer isn't a good avenue for anyone...

A seller can cancel your bid if you can convince him too and there is enough time, however if you just "change your mind" or "find a better deal" don't expect too much help, its clearly outlined in the bidding rules that once you bid, you have entered into a binding contract.
The best thing do is work something out with the seller like pay his fees and leave him positive feedback if he'll accept that ~ short of that you renig on the sale and deserve what ever feedback you get ~ IMHO

You didn't say which auction, but all of them will allow you to retract a bid. Contacting the auction administration may be difficult, as none of them make direct contact easy. However, as was pointed out above, your first contact should be with the seller.

A couple years ago I intended to bid $650 on a on a Bushmaster M17S, I bid $65000. I contacted GunBroker, they would not allow it to be retracted, luckly it didn't for more than what I intended to bid.
More recently, I intended to bid $1500 on a Valmet M82 (Yeah I like Bullpups too) ... entered my bid, user name and password then accidently clicked the "Buy it Now" button ... Guess what? I'm now the proud owner of a Valmet M82 ... for only $2000 it really wasn't a bad price with all the stuff it came with, just more than I wanted to give for it.
ANYWAY I contacted Gunbroker and 2 days later they finally got back to me and basically said "Oh, thats too bad! Sorry, your committed to it." I contacted the seller and of course he didn't didn't want to let me out under any circumstances ... rather than accept negitive feedback, I took responsibility for my actions and honored my bid.
