Removing tape "gum" from stock

I just received a new USGI walnut stock for my M1A and found it to have a small piece of tape on it. Upon removal of tape, it left that sticky "gum" behind. Is there a simple removal process? Thanks, Bill

  TRY ALMOST ANY SPRAY SOLVENT, WD40, REM OIL ECT.

  I use wd40, works great. Make sure it doesn't sit on the wood long enough to soak in.

  I use a cloth and a dab of lighter fluid for my Zippo, works great.

  Solvents will push some of the residue deeper into your stock & can also remove some of the oil finish underneath.
  
  You can use something like the non-fat cooking spray PAM (has Lecithin in it - an emulsifier) or any of the citrus-oil based cleaners like Simple Green or Goo-Gone more safely. Success depends a lot on how old & hard the adhesive residue has become.

  I think they invented Goo-Gone about two minutes after trying too remove the first adhesive label. Works good. I keep a bottle in my shop now.

  I too recommend goo-gone. Works on everything from crayola marks on the wall to tar on a vehicle, to cleaning guns, just make sure to fully clean it off when done...

  Try Eezox. It has worked great on everything I have used it on, its a synthetic and hasnt harmed any of the metal or wood.
