Model 12 Winchester 12 ga.
I have a Model 12 with a vented rib. The actual barrel length is 30 3/4 inches. Is this the standard length of the "30" inch barrel so often mentioned?

Hi.
Close your bolt tight, and measurse inside the barrel, from the bolt face, to the end of barrel, and see what you get.

I must really be ignorant of the proper terminology. This is a model 12 Win. I don't know what "bolt" you are referring to. It isn't a bolt action. Is there someting similar in a pump gun?

Try taking the barrel assembly off from the receiver. Then measure just the barrel from end to end. That will be the barrel length. email me if you need more help.

The bolt is the thing that closes on the head of the shell, when you close it. Just push the fore arm all the way forward, till it locks, then put a tape measure down the barrel till you can't move it any farther, and read the measurement on the tape. The bolt is what the shell is contained with, on pump, bolt, semi-auto,and most other long guns. I don't know about falling block actions. 0 -
I'd bet its a 32in and that adds a nice premium to the guns value over the 30in.. I think he is measuring the barrel to where it goes into the extension then add about 1in for the extension and 1/4in for the chamber ring....30 3/4 + 1 + 1/4 = 32in....hehehe 0 -
Thanks for your help everyone. The barrel is 32 inches which I understand is not too common.
