Savage rifle scope base ..help!
here is the deal my brother left me his new savage model 12fv in 223rem to put on base and scope but the leupold base that he left with me is part number 52317 which says for savage 10 through 16,510 and 516 but this base will not fit his rifle as the back of the action is the same height as the front and the one piece base is for action that the back is lower...went to leupold web site to find out what part number for the base i need and they dont list the model 12....any ideas, did savage forget to machine the back part of the action down???? thanks
doc
ps the screw holes are the right distance apart but the base would run down hill towards the bbl. also if any of you guys could steer me to the right part number i would greatly apprecate it as the closest gun store is 50 miles oneway that way i could just call to see if they have what i need...i the mean time i will be checking some more for the info i need

thanks ATF by looking at the pictures i have of savage guns, it looks like the model 12 in the picture has the back of the action lower than the front where the bases go...the only thing that looks like the action that is on this rifle is the bolt action shotgun they appear to look like the are the same height in the picture...looks like i'll be on the phone in the morning with Savage and Leupold unless somebody here has an answer. 0 -
cowdoc, I have two 112 models but they are long actions. I could not find a one piece base so I had to settle for the two piece jobs. I talked to the guys at Bear Basin and ordered from them. The long actions required an entended front base to mate up with the scope deminsions but you may not have that problem with the .223. I'm pretty sure that the 12 and 112 share the same action. Good luck.

varminthunter is the top of the action where the rear base would go the same height as were the front base mounts or is the rear machined down lower? on this rifle they are the same height 0 -
I find a different base than #52317.
One piece base is different on those model ranges.
Two piece is interchangable.
The "VH Man" has great deal that will work. Take it.
"VH MAN", i have some ammo but the rifle is the wrong caliber.
Got a free rifle to fit it???

Varmint hunter your offer is more than generous!! talked to my brother little bit ago and he is on his way to get the right bases for his rifle
think he is itching to shoot it right away....guess leupold is in the process of making a one piece base for this rifle now but dont have it on the market yet this rifle is a 2003 model they changed the action where the rear base sits ...its the same height as the front instead of being milled down lower than the front... at first thought maybe he got a rifle that got out of the factory that was not completely finished.
Again thanks for your offer!

I'll take the one with all them bent angles, and slots.
You know the one I mean,..... looks like you ran over it a couple times with your '4 WD portable power gun safe & artillery range bench' to make a custom stock fit.
It should fit the ammo I have.
