AR10A4C vs M1A Bush
Which is the best choice? Same price, can tweek gas sys on M1A, more simple system on AR10....all mags readly available for M1A, AR10 req trade plus $$ to modify or $$$ for high cap...M1A standard bbl, AR10A4C has heavy bbl. What are your thoughts?

I would go with the M1A. It is a very reliable design, has been around for many years. It is the successor to the " Greatest battle implement ever devised " the M-1 Garand. I have 3 of them and love-em.
The AR-10 is an off-shoot of Eugene Stoners original .223 design.
It to is fairly reliable but usually costs more, and the magazines are $90.00 to $100.00 each, as opposed to $45.00 to $50.00 for the M1A.
I have heard several stories of functioning problems with the AR-10, and none associated with the genuine Springfield M1A.0 -
I'm with Laredo, just the number of units produced should say enough. as far as gas system modification on M1A there shouldn't be any need. you can close the gas port to cycle bolt manualy but there is no advantage in accuracy. Fine tuning for accuracy is done with hand loads. as far as the sight picture with an aimpoint any I've seen work fine with standard rings. 0 -
I'm with the masses ... go with the M1A, if for no other reason than the cost of the mags. Why pay $50 for a M14/M1A mag then have to send it off for a conversion that costs almost as much as the mag when you can buy a M14/M1A mag and just use it in your M1A?
If they could be built from (or just use) inexpensive FAL mags I would be swayed a bit, as I like the pistol grip design of the AR-10 better.
On a side note, Stoner was working for Armalite* when he designed the AR-10; .308 was the original calibur for the design ... the .223 is the watered down version, re-designed for the lighter weigh bullets at the request of the military (Air Force I believe was the first to adopt the "M-16".
*Do not confuse the current company using the "Armalite" name with the Original Armalite ... Eagle Arms bought the name several years ago and is not the same company.

I vote with every one else for the reasons already stated. I bought my M1A about 14 months ago. I LOVE IT!! I considered an AR10 at the time, but it cost $150 more so I went with the M1A. I didn't even know about the AR10 clip costs until I read this post. I was appalled at the M1A clip prices! I was used to getting FN clips for $6-$10 each.
I'm sure the AR10 is a fine unit, but you can't go wrong with a M1A.0 -

Do you own an AR15? Do you like it? If so, get the AR10. It will keep you within the family for fit/function/cleaning. The AR10 has all the benefits of modular design. Want a 24" barrel? Bells and whistles galore.
Don't worry about mag costs, just make your voice heard around sunset time, and we'll be back in $10 20 rounders in no time at all. [8D]

I did get a chance to shoot both today. The Bush had a syn stock w/rubber recoil pad, and the AR10 was a carbine. Both shot very good and very mild recoil, the AR10 recoil felt the lightest. Both were well balanced. The M1A had NM front sights which was nice, the AR10A4C had a 1.5X5 scope which allowed for very close or < 100 yrd accurate shots. The mag $$$ issue only comes to play with the 20rds. Tough to decide. 0
