Want to know about mfgs of 308s
I don't know if this is the right forum or not, but does any one know who is in current manufacture of a rifle in 308 Winchester. I am looking for a light weight but so far about the only ones I see are made by Ruger or a Featherweight classic by Winchester. I don't want a Ruger and I have not had any luck with the accuracy of the featherweights. I have had 3 and could not get them to group very well and a buddy said he had 2 and had the same problem. Any help with my research? Thanks.

Just about all of the main stream manufactures have something in .308 cal. Browning, CZ, NEF, Remington, Tikka, etc you need to be much more specific in what you want bolt, semi, pump to get your search narrowed down. 0 -
Add Howa, Steyer, and almost every manufacturer of centerfire rifles. The .308 is one of the top ten sold. As to light weight, you will need to look at the manufacturers spec's, most of which can be found on the net. 0 -
Light weight rifles are notorious for not grouping well. Of course there are some that will, but for the most part, once the thin barrel heats up the groups spread. I think a more important feature of an ultra light is the 1st shot point of impact with a cold barrel, not particularly how well it groups 3 or 5 shots. I've got a Winchester feather weight that doesn't group worth a flip, but the 1st always goes right were the rifle is pointed. The POI never shifts on the 1st shot due to weather or humidity. I've never missed with that rifle but I've never been very proud of it at the range either. Terry 0 -
I am looking for a bolt gun. Thanks for the input so far. I have looked and do not see where Remington or Winchester makes a lightweight in 308, like a model 7 or where there is much information about a "mountain" rifle type. I have a Kimber in 7-08 and know that it also comes in 308 but I don't want to pay 800.00 for a new one. Thanks again.
