1911 differance

Reading an answer on another post made me wonder what changes were made in the 1911, from the original 1911 A-1 to the "70's" to the "80's. I have a model 1991A-1, which would be a 80 series, is it a better or worse design?

  The safety in it is a bit more complicated hence the general preference for the 70 series. Don't know why they keep tampering with perfection. [:D][}:)][:D]

  The grip safety was also made longer on the A1 to prevent the hammer biting the web of your hand.
