AR 15 accuracy/reliability
I have been trying to decide between the ar 15 and the mini 14. I want something to carry on the 4 wheeler that is not going to have problems functioning with a little dust. So my question is just what kind of accuracy can be expected from an olympic arms AR right out of the box and what kind of function problems are there with a little dust on the action? I have heard about the mini 14 accuracy but is the AR any better. Would like to hear from someone who actually owns an AR 15. Thanks

Have you thought about an AK-47? It would be my choice in the dirt. 0 -
I own an Armalite AR 15A2. It is very accurate. I would not go with Olympic Arms for an AR type. Go with Bushmaster or Armalite. The US Military uses the AR type weapons and thats says something for eliability in harsh conditions. I have owned several Mini 14s. They are very hand out to 200 yard but not as accurate as the AR's. The magazines for the Mini 14's are not cheep if you want good ones. My two cents go with Bushmaster or Armalite.

I believe that the AR 15 is more accurate mostly due to the way that the bolt engages with the barrel. They are both fine guns but the AR is superior in my opinion.

the marine coprs had me take my m16 through such dirt, mud, dust, water, you name it. NEVER had a functioning problem. this was all training, but i doubt you'll be in combat with it. go with a bushmaster or armalite. if you want to save money, you can buy a kit from either company and put it together yourself. save enough money to buy a bunch of ammo.

I agree also. The Mini-14 isn't nearly as accurate or reliable as the AR-15. If you plan on using it inside 100 yds, I would take Ironsticks suggestion about the AK, they will work in the nastiest conditions on earth. Plus, ammo and mags are much cheaper. I have never had a hiccup with my AK (or my AR either). 0 -
I've got one of the Oly's, it's a great gun. I've never had a problem with it, it eats everything I feed it, and it seems to get more accurate the more I shoot it.

sSI've got a Bushmaster AR-15 and a Mini-14. The Bushmaster is the more accurate of the two, but I believe the Mini is better in the dirt and mud. I use the Mini-14 as my ranch gun, and have no trouble taking coyotes and marading dogs out to 175 yrds. I do clean my guns when they get a good dusting of dirt though, as should you! I keep my rifle in a scabbard on my 4 wheeler, you will have enough time to "DRAW" them out, and it keeps em pretty clean.

Oly, DPMS, Bushmaster, Eagle Arms,... They all make good, accurate firearms. Just remember to compare apples to apples... standard barrels vs standard barrels, bull barrels vs bull barrels, etc.
