old 45 auto

Picked up a colt 45 auto from a guy I work with, He bought it from a friend of his who's grandfather had died. Anyway the gun is blue, it has target sights and trigger. On the right side of the frame it sez united states property m1911A U. S. ARMY NO17050XX Also has pachymar grips My question is what is the age and do you think the gun was a parkerized gun that has been reblued? In which all collector value is gone? Overall the gun is in very good to excllent shape. If the collector value is gone it's going to be hard to lose. My friend made me pay what he paid for it twenty years ago 150.00 U.S. dollars. What is it worth now any idea's Thankyou Beltfed.

Your gun was made by Colt in 1944. It was originally parkerized and had fixed sights, so there is no doubt that it has been used & abused. It has no collectors value, but as a shooter I would expect it to sell in the $300-400 range.

Your pistol would not last 1 minute on any auction board if it was going for $400 on the "buy now" option. Your pistol is worth whatever someone is willing to pay, and you could get more than $400 easy. 0 -
beltfed...i agree with nmyers what someone wants to pay. also look an see what inspectors mark is on the frame by the magizine release? an it may not have come parked, as colt made both ways [blued also]...[8)] mr gee0 -
beltfed - If you want to bail out of it ... Just to help you out, I could give you the $150 you threw away on it ... even though it is a Colt [:D]

Used and abused? How do you do that to a 1911? MANY of these guns after 1945 were bought by civilians and many were refinished and adjustable sights and various grips added. A form of a poor mans all around combat/target gun. At $15 each from the NRA many were used in various matches. Used for sure, but pretty hard to abuse them. they make GREAT shooters as is in most cases. Shoot and ENJOY unless you want to make a fashion statement. 0 -
Mr Gee, please tell me more about the late WWII blued Colt Models 1911A1 you mention. I thought that blued Models 1911A1 generally phased out in 1941 and were all gone by about serial number 760000. 0 -
could be Produced 1942 with the Du-lite blued finish over a sandblasted surface and with the "No." serial number prefix found from serial number 916405 to about serial number 1016000. Also note the first style slide logo "REMINGTON RAND, INC. SYRACUSE, NEW YORK" found from serial number 916405 to about 955000. Given final inspection by Colonel Frank J. Atwood "FJA" on the left side An example of a Colt pistol produced in 1943 with a duplicate serial number in the Union Switch & Signal range. Colt duplicated serial numbers in the Ithaca range 856405-916404, the Remington Rand range 916405-958100, and the U. S. & S. range 1088726- 1092896. Therefore two pistols a Colt and one of the other three manufacturers could have the same serial number. 1911A1Since the serial number does not reflect the gun is a known military
production the finish would not matter. Early guns were finished in the
DuLite blue parkerizing. This was true in the Ithaca guns before #900,000 and
all of the US&S production. A original DuLite gun would have to be pristine
to really reflect any of the original blue tint. Through use and cleaning it
would have dulled down considerably.

Not with a serial # of 17050xx, it couldn't. 1942 Serial numbers assigned, ran from 756734 to 856100 for all manufacturers

My references show that 1609529 to 1743846 were 1944 Colt military production.0 -
Gee Mr Gee, I fail to understand the relevance of what you said to 1944 production. What earlier production has to do with 1944 production I do not know. I agree with Xracer that no 1944 Colt M1911A1 production will be originally blue, and therefore there is no way beltfed's pistol could have been blue originally as you first stated. 0 -
