    nam,
Lyman/Ideal 439186 is the mould made for 43 Spanish % Mauser. It weighs 370gr and casts a .440 dia boolit. ...Geo

Thanks George, That isn't the one I'm looking for but if I can find one of those I may be able to make it work using the tin foil method..006 Isn't that much to overcome. Wish me luck on my quest and thanks again for your reply. nb

Just a quick question. Have you sluged the bore of your rifle? These old rifles usually run on the large side and could easily run .446 or even larger.

nam barney....the Lyman mold that you are looking for is # 446187. It cast a 465 grain round nose with 4 lube grooves. It also fits the 44-77 and 44-90 Sharps cartridges. It will not work with the 43 Spanish. Somewhat hard to find but not impossible. I have purchased 2 within the last year, traded one and kept the other. Good luck.....

    Hi Max,
Just a note on this mould. It has always been listed as for the .44-90 Sharps as well as others, however, I own an original Sharps Model 1874 in caliber .44-90-520 2 5/8 Sharps Necked and the groove diameter of this rifle is .451 with a land diameter of .446. All of which means that if you use this mould for a Sharps you have to adjust the mixture of the lead in order to achieve the larger diameter.

    Bingo Max,
Thats the one I'm looking for. Now, at least I know what to ask for. Would you believe, Lyman couldn't supply me with this info!
Thanks a lot, and have yourself a good day.

nam barney....glad to help....a very nice mold....I think Lyman would do quite well if they were to make some of these old molds again....

Scout....I have very good luck getting some of the old "undersize" molds (or oversize bores) to work because I cast at 40:1 and they obturate very well with black powder (especially the heavier bullets). I think you would love this mold. As cast at 40:1, it measures .450". I use it to cast for a friends 71/84 Mauser in 43 Mauser and have to size. Plan to also use it for a 45-100 Ballard with a .454 bore and hope it "pops" up. Like your choice of caliber for your Sharps. The 44-90 or 44-77 are my favorites.
